The English Learner (EL) Alliance at REL West at WestEd is presenting an interactive two-webinar series, Effective Practices for Partnering With Families of English Learner (EL) Students in Preschool and Kindergarten, focused on building effective home-school partnerships that support the school success of preschool and kindergarten English Learner (EL) students. These webinars target early childhood education and kindergarten teachers and administrators working with young EL students and their families.

In this first webinar, two nationally known presenters and a practitioner shared a research-based framework for family engagement. They also discussed what young EL students need to learn and be able to do, and promising practices for actively engaging families in this effort. As a result, attendees learned about (1) The foundations of effective partnerships between school and home that enhance the learning and language development of the child; (2) Progressions of age-appropriate linguistic and academic milestones students will need to succeed in school; and (3) Successful outreach efforts to engage families in learning and supporting the skills necessary to succeed in school.
